Ported phone numbers and caller id

We ported our phone numbers a few weeks ago, but when we call folks the caller id still pops up with the original OOMA numbers. Is this something we need to do, or did it fall through the cracks at OOMA.

When you port your number, they ask which number you want to be the primary after porting. If you accidentally submitted with the choice for your ported number to be secondary, then the default number displayed when you call will be the Ooma number you chose during signup.

You can call customer service and have them change it if that’s indeed what has occurred or you can just change which number is displayed for outgoing calls.

  1. Login to my.ooma.com
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Click “Privacy” on the left
  4. Where is says “Default number for outgoing calls”, make sure your ported number is selected from the drop-down menu
  5. Click “Save”
  6. Unplug your Telo for two full minutes
  7. Plug the Telo back in and place a call to the same person who saw your Ooma number before.

They should now see your ported number come up. Caller ID names will take some time. It depends on how often the provider on the other end refreshed their database from the national caller ID database. It can take 1 to several months, depending on the phone company at the other end of your call.
